The Reason We Revolted
Trump’s 2025 tariffs are taxation without representation—sound familiar?
Lyrics
We didn’t dump that tea for cheaper drinks
We did it ‘cause King George ignored what we think
No voice, no vote, just rules from a throne
Sound familiar? You're not alone
Tariffs are taxation without representation
That’s the reason we revolted, that’s the birth of this nation
King George did it then, now it’s Trump again
Freedom doesn’t come from a rich man’s pen
He slaps a fee on everything we buy
Then says it’s strong to bleed us dry
No bill, no hearing, no citizen’s word
Just backroom deals and flag-pin slurs
Tariffs are taxation without representation
That’s the reason we revolted, that’s the birth of this nation
King George did it then, now it’s Trump again
Freedom doesn’t come from a rich man’s pen
Don’t wave that flag while you rig the game
You can’t steal the cause and leave the name
We’re gonna liberate America from your rule
‘Cause freedom ain’t a toy for a coward and a fool
Tariffs are taxation without representation
That’s the reason we revolted, that’s the birth of this nation
We said no kings — we said no lies
Now we say it again with fire in our eyes
Hi David. In gratitude for and in an effort to support your timely and pointedly important, I provide the following feedback. For prospective, Please know first that I am moderately hearing impaired and use hearing aids. I listened to the various versions of The Reason We Revolted and came to the conclusion that there is an interplay between musicality and vocal clarity that is important to me. Likewise, the intended message and the mood of the music need to be congruent. For these two reasons, thought I like the jazzy rhythm of the “lead version”, I prefer the folk version. Thank you kindly for your inspirational words and works….
