This one was inspired by the pressure the FCC brought to bear on ABC to coerce them to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air. That is the very definition of government censorship. It is unconstitutional and it is un-American. It appears ABC has reversed course and Kimmel will remain on air.
I couldn’t find any numbers but I witnessed “cancel Disney+” messages explode on social media, apparently egged on by celebrities.
Lastly, this was an especially fun song to create because it really works well across different genres (even with a barbershop quartet!). Listen to the different genres below.
Lyrics
They scream about the muzzle, fists clenched in the air,
But their lies run louder than the truth ever dared.
Racist rants and threats dressed up as “debate,”
Cryin’ wolf about censorship while they amplify their hate.
Free speech for me, but not for thee,
That’s the gospel of hypocrisy.
Your voice gets throttled, theirs runs free,
Free speech for me, but not for thee.
Elon bought the bird, said the cage was gone,
But he clipped the left wing just to sing his song.
Shadow bans for progress, megaphones for spite,
The “town square” ran red overnight.
Free speech for me, but not for thee,
That’s the gospel of hypocrisy.
Your voice gets throttled, theirs runs free,
Free speech for me, but not for thee.
Trump whispered to Zuck, turn the volume up,
Algorithms serving poison in a golden cup.
A seat on the board for a loyalist’s cheer,
While the truth gets buried year after year.
Free speech for me, but not for thee,
That’s the gospel of hypocrisy.
Your voice gets throttled, theirs runs free,
Free speech for me, but not for thee.
They cursed “cancel culture,” claimed the left was cruel,
Now they’re poppin’ champagne when comedians lose.
Colbert, Kimmel silenced, and they toast with glee,
They’re writing the First Amendment’s eulogy.
FCC’s Carr with a hammer in hand,
Swingin’ broadcast threats like a government brand.
Revokin’ the license if you dare to dissent,
This ain’t free speech, it’s punishment.
Free speech for me, but not for thee,
That’s the hymn of hypocrisy.
Your voice gets throttled, mine runs free,
Free speech for me, but not for thee.
